I can't resist ending this by making a simple observation and asking a simple question: A Kennedy, a car, and a highway . . . what possibly could go wrong? -

There is anecdotal evidence that the banning of traditional ammunition would have an adverse impact on government bureaucrat populations. - Tam

QOTD - Elie Mystal
And please, never own a gun. It’s exactly the kind of people who don’t
know how to take care of themselves without a weapon who think that
owning a firearm will somehow make it all better — and then end up
shooting their way out of a situation that simply required some common
sense.
QOTD found here.
I was reminded of Robb's post about driving to work the other day when I read the above quote. Of course instead of whipping out his gat and gunning down the offender, he thought discretion was in order and simply walked away. A gun doesn't make it all better, but better to be armed and able to respond with equal or superior force than to cower when someone who lacked restraint visits violence upon you.

I suspect that Jack would want some federal or local police agency to do the taking. Jack, anytime you're feeling froggy though, Molon Labe!

A government is an entity which holds the monopolistic right to initiate force.- Found at Sipsey Street
God forbid, it should happen, but what if the government that holds that right didn't like the sign bearer's identity politics and was willing to initiate said force? Would they bleat like a sheep advocating their idea then?

QOTD - Ken Trainor
The only citizens — non-law enforcement/non-military — who are mentally stable enough to carry a loaded gun in public are those who refuse to do so.But not even the military can carry their guns in public. When was the last time you saw a service member on U.S. Soil with a loaded weapon on their person?
Ken Trainor can go and just fuck off. The only people mentally stable enough to carry a concealed weapon are those willing to do so.

QOTD - Mike Summitt via CSGV on Facebook
Exactly, dude, I don't know you. All I know is some legal gun owners commit murder, no way to tell which ones or how many. ... So, safer to assume you're one of the murderers. Unless you'd care to prove you're not by taking a test.
What Mike doesn't take into account is all of the criminals currently posessing firearms. If they've used a firearm to commit a crime, they've already shown a willingness to harm someone for ill with a firearm. If I use a firearm, it is for sport or only to defend my life & property. Also, while I am not a doctor of neither psychology or psychiatry, can't murder be a rational premeditated decision? How do you test for that? Or how about a crime of passion in the heat of the moment? Mike Summitt doesn't have any formal education in those fields either.
h/t to Joe for pointing me at this.

Back then, it was icky because it was boring and I couldn't understand half of what they were talking about. Now it's icky because it's boring and I realize that they're a pack of self-important jackanapes and poltroons without the brains God gave a turnip and all the finely honed grasp of ethics and consequences exhibited by your average neighborhood crackhead, but with better clothes.
And yet, people still think that somehow Charles Krauthammer is such a great guy.

QOTD - Mike Vanderbough
I was once asked by a citizen disarmament advocate, a follower of the Bradys, what I thought about more firearm restrictions. I began to answer when he impatiently broke in, "Give me the short answer." I replied, "Okay. . . If you try to take our firearms we will kill you." All the fellow could do was stare at me in disbelief. This is the restated meaning of "shall not be infringed." Some people, however, have to have it translated for them. Believe me, the NRA is the least of the citizen disarmament advocates' problems.

This quote, that Kevin quotes comes from H.L. Mencken -
The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods.
The whole piece at TSM is worth the read, as always. And the scary part is that Kevin's chew toy votes.

QOTD - destination and terminology edition
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said Sunday that a citizen protecting his home or hunting doesn't need a gun with 33 bullets per clip.
Heh, I think the nation's spirits would be lifted quickly if Congress acted decisively to move to a deserted island and not bother their constituents any longer.
BTW, Ed, it's a magazine MEH GUH ZEEN! not a clip.
"I think the nation's spirits would be lifted if the Congress acted quickly with the president and reinstated the assault weapons ban which also had the ban on these large magazines, these clips that carried 30-plus bullets," he said

QOTD -
Why do firearm fetishists always conveniently forget the first part of the Second Amendment (“A well regulated Militia”)? Those intent on packing heat everywhere are not members of a militia and are clearly unwilling to be well regulated.
found via
First off, well regulated, when the Second Amendment was written, meant well disciplined. With few exceptions, gun owners are disciplined enough to not indiscriminately fire their weapons in an unsafe manner. Second, if enduring Brady background checks, seeking permission to conceal a weapon upon one's person, and having fingerprints taken when buying ammunition, is not regulation, I don't believe I can define it then. And we willingly endure those things to exercise a right. - TotC

QOTD - Allen Rostron
Learning from the pitfalls and building on achievements of the past, the Obama administration can make progress on the gun issue with a strategy that emphasizes the compatibility of gun rights and sensible gun control.- Allen Rostron
William R. Jacques Constitutional Law Scholar and Associate Professor of Law
University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law
The source of the quote I found here.
There is no compatibility between gun rights and sensible gun control. Since the National Firearms Act of 1934, we've been exploring that compatibility. It's like the vegetable your parents made you eat as a child. You did it, because it was put in front of you. Now that you're an adult, that vegetable is no longer on your menu.

QOTD - calling out the bigot
Mr. Baird, you're a bigot. An angry bigot. You are prejudiced against guns, and by extension the people who own and carry them. You have very little self-control, and you believe that's normal - you must be normal, right? Therefore no one should own a gun, much less carry one - except for those who collect a government paycheck. Somehow that distinction makes them special, different, trustworthy.Kevin Baker at TSM
Joe Huffman rightly points out that people like Mr Baird who would oppress a minority and actively seek to berate them should be treated as the bigots that they are.

QOTD - Equality defined edition
Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent , a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.- Alexis de Tocqueville
So the question to ask yourself is this; Do I wish to restrain my fellow man and perhaps drag him down to my level, or do we each work so that others may attain our level and perhaps surpass us?

, “At the heart of the egalitarian left is the pathological belief that there is no structure of reality; that all the world is a tabula rasa that can be changed at any moment in any desired direction by the mere exercise of human will.” - Murray Rothbard
And you see proof of this when anti gunners like the Brady Bunch, the VPC, and the SPLC try to state that the 2nd Amendment is a collective, rather than an individual right.

QOTD - Hippy Please edition
From Larry Correia's blog. Besides being a damned fine writer, Larry also really cares about our liberties. In the post this comes from, Larry updates us from his perspective on the happenings of these interesting times.
Meanwhile, a bunch of left wing hoodlums are burning stuff at the G-20, just like they do. Every. Single. Year. Why is it that the media is so deathly afraid of us right wingers being violent, though we hardly ever are, yet lefties and socialists shut down a city for a week every year and nobody notices because it’s so ho-hum. It’s probably because if a single local Tea-Party got into a mood we could overthrow a small country. My side doesn’t screw around. When we get violent, we go big or we go home. I see your trash can through a store window and raise you a Barrett M-82, hippy. My money is on the M-82.
