Monster Hunter Vendetta - A Review

Larry Correia's Monster Hunter Vendetta has been released to the public and I picked up my copy this last Sunday. If you don't know about Larry Correia, he is an accountant with a thing for B grade horror movies and guns.  This shows through in his writing.  For accurate firearms information in a story, Larry gets it right. 


I always love reading the books in the beginning of an author's career. It allows one to chart the progress of how an author develops, and from what I read in Monster Hunter Vendetta, Mr. Correia is maturing quite nicely as an author.The book flows quite nicely without any kind of scenes that slow the plot down. Even when introducing new characters or information about a character, the author makes it so the action moves right along.

Mr, Correia is not afraid to turn accepted fantasy norms on their ear, as witnessed by the trailer park elves introduced in Monster Hunter International. In Vendetta, he has taken a cherished part of fantasy and twisted them in such a way that leaves the reader chuckling. Also, the enigmatic Agent Franks of the Monster Control Bureau is a twist on a famous literary and movie monster. 

I do believe that Larry Correia has written a book, that will satisfy the action palette of the reader.  Especially those that are looking for a fun fall read coming into Halloween season.

Unexpected Surprises

Last Thursday I received one of those e-mails from UPS that a package was headed my way from SI Defense. Now, back in December Say Uncle put a post up that SI Defense had AR-15 lowers going for $50.00 each. I jumped at the chance to start a build on an EBR. I received the lower through my local FFL and thought I was done with SI Defense for the time being. With that e-mail last Thursday, I was informed that another package was headed my way. I came home to find this.



Thank you very much SI Defense. This is most appreciated and unexpected pleasant surprise. Should you find the need to send anything else my way, I of course would be happy to oblige in receiving it. Of course, now I have to rethink my whole AR build, but oh, what a problem to have.

Para GI Expert in Stainless Steel

Para has announced they'll be producing the GI Expert in Stainless Steel. Buddy Taupe of the Chain prefers Stainless Steel and two tone guns. He seems indifferent to 1911 pistols, and claims that SS ones are pricey. With an MSRP of $699.00 this one will retail for less. My lust has just been upgraded.

My Second Amendment Saturday

Started out by going to the local reloader store to see about setting me up with a single stage press. (I sure didn't pick a cheap pastime.)

There's a saying in amateur radio is that a hamfest is where junk exchanges basements. I am gonna paraphrase that and say that a gun show is where safe queens exchange gun safes. I did find some ammunition in .380 that I didn't have to sign over my life savings for though, so not all bad. Oh and the lovely handstitched leather holster that fits my Thunder lika Gulove.

The best part of the day. Time at the range. It was zenlike. Me, my Bersa, the target. my surprise every time the sear tripped. Ahhhh.... Life is indeed good.
