On the Las Vegas shooting

I don't care if every other gun owner played Cops & Robbers, North Hollywood Shootout edition last night with the local constabulary, I didn't.  So anti gunners can go wank right off.

Gun grabbing tabled......for now

The Senate voted this week and amendments to the base bill were voted down, including the infamous Manchin-Toomey amendment. 

I'm gonna gloat a wee little bit and do my happy dance.  There's still lots of work to be done. I read Delaware is passing a bill for universal background checks.  And that brings me to this quote from the movie Serenity,

'Cause as sure as I know anything I know this: They will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground, swept clean. A year from now, ten, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave.

Right now they're trying again, and will continue to do so.  It's time for us to misbehave.  Call your politicians and let them know you'll "misbehave" at the polls.   Let them know there are political consequences to their actions. 

I can hear the howling already

Everyone is upset ( or is going to be) when they see this.  However, Do you want Chuck Schumer writing this? Or MAIG?  Maybe Eric Holder, hmmm? 

Nope, I want the guy who works with Alan Gura, to write bills that can be defeated. Also,  rights will be expanded if this bill becomes law.  Granted, it's not "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! MOLON LABE!" but, something is going to get passed. Our Congress, even the staunchest of liberty's defenders are spineless jellyfish. As Alan Gottlieb says, there are consequences if the system is abused.  Now the problem I foresee with that is that some vast number of prohibited persons filling out and/or falsifying a 4473, don't get prosecuted.  But I trust SAF a far sight more than the NRA who has been known to sell out for their own self interest. 

Also, I can't remember where, but there is something about if this were to be defunded, it would be permanently shut down.

Two times now, the MHP has asked for, received and shared with the federal government, exactly who in Missouri has obtained a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit.

While not a gun registry per se, it is a registry of who has applied for and received a permit to conceal a weapon on their person legally.  Missouri law does not allow this.  It is up to MO AG Chris Koster to investigate and prosecute this. 

Edit: Please forgive me, law enforcement is not sworn to protect people, they are sworn to uphold and enforce the law.

So, with two responses back from the Missouri contigent of MAIG,  both of them have said they either a. My position focuses specifically on gun violence, not the broad right to keep and bear arms. 

or b. I feel efforts to removeillegal guns from the streets are appropriate.  

But Sebastian of Shall Not be Questioned   has pictures & a video of a MAIG rally in Pennsylvania. 

Their end game is confiscation.   If you're not calling out these people every chance you get on their belief, then you should be.  Otherwise, we might find ourselves staring down the barrel of our rifles with a neighbor in our sights. 








 

A letter sent to the Missouri member's of MAIG

I recently sent this letter to the Missouri members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns in the hope of them renouncing their membership in an organization whose members routinely violate the law.

The mayors are,

I would urge my readers to contact these mayors if you live in Missouri or your own if you reside in another state and demand to know why they would associate such an organization.

I am writing you to ask you why you are a member of the Michael Bloomberg led Mayors Against Illegal Guns?  

As a peacefully armed citizen, I find that when good law abiding citizens are armed, bad things that happen to them tend to go their way.  Yet MAIG is working to disarm me and millions of fellow gun owners. 

Perhaps you don't know some of your fellow MAIG members.  Let me introduce you to them and the hijnks they're involved in.  Recently we have Gainesville FL mayor Craig Lowe, arrested on drunk driving charges.

Also, Marcus Hook PA mayor James Schiliro had a police officer drive a 20 year old to his and allegedly offered sexual favors to the young man while intoxicated and waving a gun around.

I certainly wouldn't be a part of an organization where my fellow members cannot hold themselves to the same standard they took an oath to defend, an oath you took as well.  Why would you?

Recently Michael Bloomberg said, "I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom."

No, no he doesn't get to infringe upon my freedom any more than I get to infringe upon his, or yours,  with a free pass.  If you believe that what Michael Bloomberg said is ok, then we have a problem.  The constitution is a check on the power of the government, not a permission slip for you to do as you see fit. 

Sometime, have you probably asked why someone needs an AR-15, or needs a standard capacity thirty round magazine?  Those are inappropriate questions.  The correct question you should be asking is this: What justification does the government have for infringing upon my right to keep and bear arms?

My sincerest hope is that you would help defend those you've been elected to serve from encroachment and erosion of their natural rights, not assist an organization seeking to curtail those rights. Would you please renounce your membership in Mayors Against Illegal Guns? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to your reply.


We shall see what kind of response I get.   I will not hold my breath, but at least they know that we are watching them.

In Oak Harbor WA, a wounded veteran was asked to leave a council meeting after attending a meeting armed. 

An unidentified man though made the most thought provoking statement:

Another citizen addressed the council and stated that his mother was a Jew and that his parents had died in Hitler's gas chambers. "I will not go into the night quietly while these two ask me to board the train," he said.


The man was carrying an M-1 rifle on his shoulder.

I'd stand shoulder to shoulder with this man any day.  And yet, not a single shot was fired, nor a weapon raised and aimed at someone in anger.    No, this was done peacefully, yet forcefully.   We should all hope that this soapbox never reaches the ammo box.

That stalward supporter of gun control has found himself at least neutral ground in his agenda for gun control.

Like many of my fellow Americans, I wrote my congressman and reminded him that I owned an AR pattern rifle and associated items for that rifle.  A rifle that many call an "assault weapon" but in reality is simply a semi automatic rifle.  While the letter is quite lengthy and would require me typing out a page worth, I'll share a couple key passages.

"These types of shootings have become too frequent (referencing Newtown CT.)  We must determine what it is about our culture and the policies we have put in place that allow or cause these tragedies to occur. I believe we must come to a solution that reduces violence in our society without infringing on the second amendment rights of law-abiding Americans." emphasis mine 

The next paragraph though is the one that give me hope.

"Please know that I oppose such efforts to curtail our Second Amendment rights.  Throughout my career, I have championed our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I  believe, and the Supreme Court has affirmed, that law-abiding citizens have the right to purchase, possess, and use firearms for legitimate purposes such as self-defense, hunting, and recreation.  As a member of the National Rifle Association and a supporter of responsible gun ownership, I believe that Federal laws regarding firearms should be in place to protect the rights of private citizens, not restrict them.  Rest assured that I will continue to stand up for our Constitutional rights."

Remember that reminding our  elected representatives of who we are and what we represent to them is a good way to remind to do the right thing. 

Rolla Missouri Police Chief understands

Chief Mark Kearse polled his officers, a 60 member force and the majority of them state the laws as they stand now. 2 of his officers stated laws should be loosened and only 1 stated laws should be made stricter.

Thank you Chief Kearse for understanding that peaceably armed citizens are not the bad guys.  

Depends on what your definition of average is

So Chuck the Schmuck has claimed that the NRA is a "Fringe Group" and doesn't represent the average American Gun Owner. 

So in looking up the word "average" I found the following;

Adjective

Constituting the result obtained by adding together several quantities and then dividing this total by the number of quantities.

I guess if you only represent the James Yeagers, Alex Jones' and their nut huggers, then yeah, 'average' isn't.

But when the NRA adds 250,000 new members, really how many of those folks are what Chuck the Schmuck considers average?  

IL. AG Madigan files for en banc

A three judge panel ruled earlier that Illinois must provide some form of legislation that allows for the carrying of firearms. Now AG Madigan has filed an appeal for the full seventh circuit to review these cases.  From her press release.

Chicago — Attorney General Lisa Madigan today announced she has filed a petition for rehearing before the full U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in lawsuits challenging the Illinois laws that prevent the carrying of ready-to-use firearms in public.

The Attorney General’s petition for a rehearing “en banc” is a request for all of the judges on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to review the case after a December decision by a three-judge panel of the court held that the state laws barring carrying ready-to-use firearms in public are unconstitutional.

With the White House, and the Illinois legislature's recent try at gun grabbing after Newtown, AG Madigan must feel she has the momentum to win this.

Jan 19 of this year is gun appreciation day.   A broad coalition of PACs & gun rights organizations are aiming to show a united front for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

But I wouldn't trust the State Dept. to negotiate itself out of a wet paper sack.  

So when is the right time to lay claim to standing your ground?

The parents of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin say Floridians who initiate confrontations should not be allowed to invoke the state’s “stand-your-ground law,” which permits using deadly force against those who pose a risk of killing or seriously injuring someone.

Pray tell, why? exactly should we not be allowed to invoke it?  Who initiated this confrontation?   It is not known, as far as I can tell.   That is why George Zimmerman sits in a jail cell in Florida awaiting trial.

SAF sues New Mexico

The Bellevue, WA. based Second Amendment Foundation is suing New Mexico over it's denial of a CCW permit to a resident legal alien.


The lawsuit seeks to enjoin King and Hubbard from further enforcing the state ban on the issuance of concealed carry permits to non-citizens, and to declare that the law is null and void because it violates the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms, and the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.

Recently, the SAF won a similiar case in Massachusetts.  The SAF is winning our firearms freedoms back from bad legislation and rules enforcement.  Keep up the great work.   

The protest that wasn't

This past weekend the NRA successfully wrapped up it's most attended convention ever with a total attendance of 73,740 peaceably armed citizens (except for the fact that America's Center has a no weapons policy.) 

In contrast, this video shows what I count to be seven people in city hall holding a press conference to announce a protest to be held on the grounds of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. 

That's a ratio of 10,534 to 1.   

When I searched for 'NRA Protest Arch Grounds' nary a return came up, and instead more links for the above video.   I received the digital equivalent of crickets.  

Of course maybe once the protesters realized that H.R. 627 allowed folks to go armed according to state firearms laws, they wet their pants in fear. 

Forbes contributor doesn't understand

E.D. Kain wrote an editorial in response to this blurb. Mr. Kain shows his ignorance in who gets to interpret the Constitution with this gem.

I’ve never interpreted the right to bear arms as the right to own any damn gun you want. The Second Amendment was written when arms consisted of flintlock muskets. You had to actually work to load one of those things (I loaded one once, a very long time ago, and while I’m sure you get better at it with time, it’s not a quick process).

Well there E.D., back when the constitution was written, we didn't have e-mail, the internet, nor television either. See, technology has changed, and for the better. I can write this piece and publish it in my own little corner of the internet. Just like I can load my semi-auto handgun and take a trip to the local range and blast holes in paper zombie targets as fast as I can pull the trigger. He goes on about how carrying weapons has not stopped these attacks. Note though, that the National Guardsmen that were murdered in Nevada, were not carrying weapons on themselves. He seemingly cries that somehow an armed citizen should rush in and have a gun fight with the attacker.

The logic behind carrying weapons to prevent these sort of shootings also strikes me as fundamentally flawed.
