My teachable moment today

As I was out in front of the Top of the Chain bunker this evening, a young black man was walking along with a clear plastic Colt Government Model Airsoft Gun. I called him over and asked if I could see his firearm. He let me see it, and asked if he could see my Bersa riding open carry on my right hip. I explained that without his mother's permission I wouldn't be able to. I did explain the four rules to him and bid him good luck. If I see him again I'll ask him if he'd like to go shooting pending his mother's permission.

Paypal = Bovine Fecal Material

A while back I asked if a frog's ass is watertight. That was here. Kevin Baker has posted an update. Paypal has apparently decided that charity raffles benefiting wounded disabled soldiers is unworthy of their services. To that I say, a hearty kiss my ass Paypal.

I am new to the whole RKBA/2A movement. I've stated that my first go around was more about destroying evil paper circles. But damnit, this time I am like Kevin, I'm sick of the anti gun bigotry that some in this country want to perpetuate. Paypal, no more. Ebay, no more. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Destroying evil paper circles

It was combloc day for me and my buddies at the range today. Well, almost sorta combloc in my case. Buddy B and buddy N had respectively, a Mosin Nagant rifle and carbine & a WASR-10 AK clone. I had my CZ P-07. See sorta, as CZ's are made in a formerly combloc country. I ran across this quote this morning before shooting.

Don't get too hung up on accessories. Simple is good. The best thing you can put on any firearm is wear. I had an instructor once say "Bond with your weapon until it wags it's barrel when it sees you coming."

I am putting wear on my CZ, my Sig Mosquito and my 10/22. I've owned the CZ the longest. It's not quite wagging it 's barrel at me yet, but let's just say that if I talk sweet and hold out my hand for it to sniff, it doesn't run away skittish. It even actually lets me pet it on the head once in a while.

The 10/22 is like that Labrador Retriever your parents bought for you as a kid. Loyal, no fuss, it loves to snuggle up to you as you pet it's tummy. And it eats anything.

The Sig is bit more of a finicky eater. It's that purebred year old dog that wants to like you and eventually will. Just on it's own terms and in it's own time. I gave it the most attention today and ran out of steak to feed it. It didn't like the bargain basement stuff and let me know. While eating that steak, it rolled over, played dead, sat up and begged for more.

Buddy B, not so lucky with the rifle. The cartridges refused to eject. His carbine though very nice.

Buddy N, was cursing ProMag magazines for AK's. They were a birthday present, so he can't complain too much. He didn't feed his Mosquito steak and it balked.

All in all, a good day at the range.

On one final note, to the gentleman shooting the AR clone, your medium T-Shirt stopping above your 4x belly, too much, wait no not enough rather. Go see my friend Omar, the tentmaker, he'll cover that 18 wheeler spare tire you call a gut.

Reduce, reuse. recycle, reload

Ahh, I knew it was in there somewhere. The not quite complete Top of the Chain reloading bench has supplies for it now. I bought a Lee Anniversary reloading kit and have been slowly accumulating other stuff as well. I feel so green, recycling brass. Going to destroy evil circles on paper here soon. More to follow.

What's next? Reperations

Obama thinks that the White House is his. He just gets to live there for the next three and half years.

On top of all that, why on God's sweet earth is he singling out one incident of a Harvard Scholar?
I thought that by annointing him , we'd all gotten over any racism left in this country. There are good police and bad police everywhere, and I don't believe that this was racially motivated. I believe it was being an uncooperative asshole motivated. The officer states flatly that he won't apologize. And why should he, he was doing his job. People will cry for more training, that he should know better, blah blah blah. Listen up you tools whose parents didn't discipline you as a child, the ones who were told 'you're special' you're not. Hike up your jimmy's and deal with it. Don't blame the police for doing their job. And next time, hide a key under a rock, or leave a spare with a neighbor.

That whole 90% thing

Could be correct, if you understand the context of that number. And according to the reports numbers it is 87%, not the 90% that the MSM has latched onto. Mexico provided a very small sample of the weapons it has seized from the Mexican Drug Cartels to the ATF for tracing purposes. Of those weapons traced, 90% of them were traced back to the US. Here is the quote from the article

According to the report, some 30,000 firearms were seized from criminals by Mexican officials in 2008. Out of these 30,000 firearms, information pertaining to 7,200 of them, (24 percent) was submitted to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for tracing. Of these 7,200 guns, only about 4,000 could be traced by the ATF, and of these 4,000, some 3,480 (87 percent) were shown to have come from the United States.

Now criminals are a greedy bunch and would you rather purchase $1,000.00 AR15s

In fact, due to this surge in demand, it is downright difficult to locate many types of assault rifles and certain calibers of ammunition, though a lucky buyer might be able to find a basic stripped-down AR-15 for $850 to $1,100, or a semiautomatic AK-47 for $650 to $850. Of course, such a gun purchased in the United States and smuggled into Mexico will be sold to the cartels at a hefty premium above the purchase price.

Or $100.00 fully automatic rifles?

By way of comparison, in places where weapons are abundant, such as Yemen, a surplus fully automatic assault rifle can be purchased for under $100 on the white arms market and for about the same price on the black arms market. This difference in price provides a powerful economic incentive to buy low elsewhere and sell high in Mexico, as does the inability to get certain classes of weapons such as RPGs and fragmentation grenades in the United States.

Now, I'm not an economist, but even I can see that I'd rather buy a $100 rifle than a $1,000 rifle. Criminals being the greedy people they tend to be, probably see this as well. Oh yeah, the last time I went into my FFL, I asked for that RPG and South Korean hand grenade. He said he'd work on it but don't hold my breath.

So from a certain point of view, 87% would be correct. The entire article can be found
here.

In Memory of

Darrell "Shifty" Powers

Kevin asked everyone to spread this, I'm gonna do my part.

No 24/7 TV coverage

No Staples Center memorial service

Just a man, who when the need arose, answered the call

Here is the original posting

Shifty was acknowledged as the finest shot of his company with the M1 Garand.

Shifty went 60 plus years before he held another. Read that story here.

Sir, may you rest in peace.

First, it was the Frogs....

Bud.. Weis... errrrr!!!

And don't forget the psycho penguin

Now, the fun suckers think because you name your beer after New Jersey turnpike exits ,that it implies the state is promoting drinking while driving.

Does P.J. O'Rourke know about this?
